In 2007, the winner of Britain's Best Park was chosen on the basis of the number of nominations it received from local authorities and individuals who felt that it deserved recognition.

Now the competition is judged by a team of experts, who use their gardening expertise and knowledge of the sector to assess the entries against the following criteria:

  • Environment
  • Access
  • Maintenance
  • Inclusion
The judges are:

Peter Seabrook - gardening editor from The Sun
Matthew Appleby - editor of Horticulture Week
Carol Warters - news editor from Garden News
Ian Small - UK sales manager of Briggs & Stratton UK Ltd
Graham Paskett - member of the Garden Writers’ Guild
