Instructions for Entry (Please read before completing the form)
Welcome to the sixth national Britain 's Best Park competition run by the world's largest manufacturers of petrol engines for outdoor equipment, Briggs & Stratton.
In 2007, Pollok Country Park, Glasgow took the title thanks to its rich and proud history. It boasts two major visitor attractions, namely Pollok House, the ancestral home of the Maxwell Family, founders of the Forestry Commission and the National Trust and the Burrell Museum showcasing a collection of priceless world art.
This year, the competition is being run in two stages. Firstly, (via this application form) entries are invited from bodies or individuals nominating their best park. Secondly, the entries are whittled down to the finalists who will judged by our distinguished panel of experts, and an overall winner chosen.
The entry forms are separated into two - one for local authorities and another for members of the public. When completing this form please include all information you feel would be relevant to your bid, as the entries are initially judged by this form and accompanying material alone. High resolution photographs are also useful to illustrate your entry.
The team of expert judges include Peter Seabrook, gardening editor from The Sun, Ian Small, UK sales manager of Briggs & Stratton UK Ltd, Carol Warters, news editor of Garden News and Matthew Appleby, editor of Horticulture Week and Graham Paskett, member of the Garden Writers' Guild.
Please retain a photocopy of your entry for your information.
All entries must be returned by Friday 29th September 2008 to:
Britain's Best Park Competition
50/51 Friar Gate
Derby
DE1 9NW
Judging will be completed by the middle of October and a presentation made to the winning park at the end of October. The winning park will then go forward to compete in the Europe's Best Parks competition, which will be judged in November.
